What is a Campaign?

To put it simply a campaign is a set out plan that aims to achieve a goal. In other words, each campaign needs a reason. For an artist who is new to music, this may be an upcoming event or music release. From there, you can begin working out a plan for which tools you use, such as social media, to communicate that goal.

Step 1: Choosing a medium

Assuming you have a goal in mind for your campaign we can start on the planning process. There are a few main mediums that you can use to share your campaign those being; social media, in-person pop-ups, print such as posters and billboards or even TV commercials. Given you have most likely just graduated let's look at social media as this is a free effective way to get your message around the globe.

Step 2:
Using a marketing funnel

This is a fancy way of saying how to take someone scrolling through their for you page and finding your content to them and their friends buying your new EP. Similar to the content pillars you also want content to have its place in the marketing funnel. Alongside this, you can see what a typical marketing funnel looks like. Let's give an example of what a different piece of content would look like at each stage of the funnel beginning with the top.

Awareness - Announcement post of event/new album or Hinting stories of new music creation teasing possible release date.

Consideration - Showing behind the scenes of music being created or Sharing small snippets of music over video.

Conversion - Sharing a post about the success of the launch of the launch itself. Also re-posting content made by others listening to your music on your stories.

Loyalty - Posting about the appreciation of your audience and also engaging in the comments/ dm's with followers.

Step 3:
Planning the content

Now you understand the campaign's purpose, medium and the official marketing funnel you're ready to create your own. Let's get started. Here are a few tips I would consider when creating your campaign:

Tip 1 - Do you have a clear style for this campaign that aligns well with the music/event that it's about?

Tip 2 - Is this campaign aligned with your brand? Does it make sense with what your audience currently knows about you?

Tip 3 - Will this concept resonate with my audience? Is this something my target audience would be excited about and want to engage with?
